[NTLUG:Discuss] unable to stop xinetd

	I'd bet that xinetd wasn't/isn't running in the first place.  You
tried something like the following:

tail /var/log/messages -f &
/usr/sbin/xinetd
fg
Ctrl-C


	And see if there's an error message?  Just a thought.
