For RedHat 6.2 FTP is actually in.ftpd, and usually lives
in /usr/sbin.  To double check this, look in the file
/etc/inetd.conf.  You should see a line like this:

ftp     stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd  in.ftpd -l -a

Also,  have you checked to see if there are any revalent entries in
/var/log/messages or /var/log/secure?
