Yes - but it's also where the old value of 'x' goes when
you say:

    x = 6 ;

...and where all the files go when you reformat your hard
drive.

I've seen some SGI IRIX software that allocates memory by 'mmap'ing
chunks of /dev/null - I have no idea why they do that - and I would
be suprised if it worked on all UNIXen....but it's another strange
use for /dev/null.
