Yes, the protocol still exists...but not much more than that, I think.
AFAIK, Konqueror (KDE browser) has an io-slave for it. And there's at least
one program on linux devoted to the gopher-network. I used it once, but
forgot its name. I guess there's one for windows too, though I never used it
on windows.
