look in /proc filesystem to get info on IO address, interupts, PCI bus/bridge etc.
/etc/modules.conf for specific params passed to modprobe
run "hwinfo>myhwinfo.txt" and compare the info against dmesg, /proc/, /etc/modules.conf
modprobe in verbose mode for module loading error messages (man modprobe)

If this is a multi-boot system what config info does the other OS show?
This could be a BIOS setting problem ...
