I think many people would say that this is so, particularly for Debian's stable
branch. Since Debian is totally community-diven, there's no rush to release
things before they're ready and tested.

There's a trade-off though. You sacrifice a lot of "out-of-the-box" bells
and whistles that are common on other distributions. You can roll your own,
but some folks may not want to invest the time to do so.

For my situation, I wanted a server that was stable, secure, and easy to
maintain. No window dressing needed. That's Debian for me. I also wanted a
Linux desktop but was struggling with getting certain things like USB, X4,
sound, etc. set up. I was willing to endure some flakiness for having this
stuff more out of the box. So, I went to Mandrake 8.
