One more note about gcc 2.96, my computer at work is in the process of 
downloading the Mandrake 8.0 Beta for PowerPC. It will be interesting to find 
out if Mandrake used gcc 2.96 on a distribution that does not need 
compatibility with anything Red Hat. I'll let you know tomorrow.
