Reminder...
The Central Texas Chapter of the IEEE Communications/Signal Processing
Society invites you to attend our July meeting and presentation by Michael
Hathaway on Network Processors.
CURRENT MEETING
DATE July 19, 2001 6:30 PM
LOCATION SBC Technology Resources, Inc. (SBC-TRI)
9505 Arboretum Blvd, Austin, Texas
TOPIC Network Processors
SPEAKER Michael Hathaway, Venture Partner, Austin Ventures
Mr. Hathaway has over 20 years of experience in the high tech
industry ranging from analog and digital audio electronics to
networking and telecom. He started his career in the audio
electronics industry with work on analog and digital audio DSP
technologies. While at Lexicon, he established the successful
LXP series of digital audio effects processors. Mr. Hathaway has
worked in the telecom and networking industries at such companies
as BBN, Digital Products, Ascom/Nexion, Xedia, and Agere
(Lucent). While at BBN, he spearheaded research and development
in IP router forwarding engine technology for the DARPA funded
Multi-Gigabit Router program. He was Co-Founder, CTO and VP of
Engineering of IronBridge Networks, Inc, a Boston area core
router startup company, and most recently was Chief Technology
Officer of Agere (recently acquired by Lucent Microelectronics)
where he headed up a pioneering team developing first and second
generation Network Processor architectures.
ABSTRACT Network Processors are gaining significant attention in the
market today. Every major communications based semiconductor
vendor has invested in network processing technology either by
acquisition or by internal development. By far the largest source
of Network Processor technology to date, however, is internal
chip development done by the data communications OEM's
themselves.
In this talk we will discuss what Network Processors are and how
they are used in a networking system. We will also discuss how
the Network Processor market has evolved into what it is today
and how these devices could affect network system architectures
in the future.
********* The presentation is open to chapter members and non-members.
********* Free food and beverages will be served to attendees.
RSVP If you plan to attend, please send e-mail to Howard Headrick
at hfrjr at swbell.net for planning purposes.
UPCOMING MEETING - Please note change
In September, the chapter will meet at Surgient Networks, and the company
will give a presentation on their network content delivery technology.
MONTHLY MEETING NOTICE
The Chapter meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM at SBC
Technology Resources, Inc. (SBC-TRI) located at 9505 Arboretum Blvd in
Austin, Texas. Please feel free to post meeting notices and invite guests.
