  That is what I have found.  The documentation says you can get both to
work simultaneously, but I have not found that to be the case.

  I have been able to associate both .php and .php3 with the php4 engine
by tweaking the httpd.conf file, however.  And php4 runs 99% of php3
scripts with no changes.
