As much as I love vi (no flames please), I have to say it doesn't resemble 
EDIT in the least, so I would have to say that pico is the closest I've
personally seen to EDIT on linux.  If you can't find anything you like, and you
absolutely have to have EDIT, try out dosemu and run EDIT itself.
