Yes - this "not accepting new customers" thing is really annoying. Back
in May, I checked up with Telocity and found out that I was *finally*
inside their service area. I asked for application details and got them -
but since I was going on vacation, made the fatal mistake of waiting a
month before actually applying. Meantime they were taken over by DirectTV
and now they claim that I live too far from the local exchange. How
my home got moved in the interim, I'm not sure!

I asked to speak to a supervisor - then to the boss of the supervisor
and finally found out that in fact I still do live within the service area
but they just aren't taking on new customers in my area right now.

Grrrrr!

Telocity looked like a good deal - multiple static IP addresses, Linux-friendly,
cheap *optional* "personal firewall" box, no explicit upstream bandwidth limits,
etc, etc.

So, I'm still stuck with a modem.
