It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I write this letter.

In all honesty, I am writing this with only 3 votes of the board,
so not all of you may agree with the decision to postpone our
10th/5th Linux Anniversary celebration and Linux Fair 2001.

I urge members to spend this weekend with their families. There
are many families whose lives have been changed dramatically
over the past two days. I found out today that a colleague
of mine was on board the plane that crashed in PA. His name
is Ed Felt. If there is any good news, it would seem that
this plane crashed possibly as a direct result of the work
of many of the passengers who apparently attempted to take
the plane back away from the terrorists. This plane was
believed to be heading for possibly the White House or
the US Capitol building. I consider Ed to be a genius and
friend... and I hope to see him again someday. I can't
help but believe that Ed was one of the men who wrestled
with the attackers and... in a real way... they actually
beat them.

Pray, grieve, mourn... tomorrow the sun rises again and we
are all reminded of how fortunate we are. Linux is
still free... life is still good. But Linux isn't
life....it's what we do and not who we are (got that one
from a Disney movie).

I am seeking to move the meeting out by ONE WEEK. So hopefully,
this will not result in the cancellation of the September
meeting. I do not if we'll be successful in moving the date
yet... BUT I do want everyone to check their calendars.
Especially those who volunteered to bring their systems in
this weekend for the Fair (I will try to get out a letter
to those involved shortly). ALSO, I need a few volunteers
to help coordinate... I need someone to help with getting
food and drink, we'll also need some people who can provide
a couple of coolers with ice. We'll need someone to help
with the network and machine setup. Let me know if you
would like to volunteer for one of those specific items,
or if you would like to be used "whereever".

Remember also.... this meeting (whenever held) will be a voting
meeting for the open board positions.

Thanks,
Chris
