Basicly, all of the CD burning programs like xcdroast are just graphical
front ends for cdrecord, which is a command line utility. Thus they all
require cdrecord to be able to function. This also means that if you want
to know if a particular CDRW drive is supported under Linux, the best place
to check is on the cdrecord website. This, plus a fairly comprehensive
list of GUI front end programs for cdrecord can be found by searching
http://freshmeat.org

Personally, I have the most experience with xcdroast, which works pretty
well for my needs.
