In the linux kernel source tree, there's lots of basic info in the
Documentation directory.  Read up on modules.txt, and you can usually find
which module you'd be creating in the Configure.help file.

When booting, it's not obvious where the error originates.  On redhat for
instance, it could be defined in /etc/modules.conf or a hardcoded
"modprobe" in the /etc/rc.d tree or it could be the kernel messaging
kerneld about a requested feature.



If you started with the redhat kernel source (be careful - they patch!) you
would have their .config file to work with (option settings in the base
directory)
