Help please,

I use fetchmail to retrieve mail from my ISP (POP3) and VM 6.75 under
21.1 (patch 14) "Cuyahoga Valley" XEmacs Lucid for my mail agent.

Suddenly all of my incoming messages display a "^M" appended to each
line of the messages.  Very annoying.  These control characters are
not printed when I look at the files using using less.  Apparently I
have accidently changed or corruption has changed a setting in VM.
Does anyone know of the top of their head, how to control this
behavior in VM or have any suggestions re where to start looking?
