[NTLUG:Discuss] MySQL vs PostgreSQL

I'm trying to decide on which DBMS to use for a production system.  I've
found many different opinions of both.  Good points and bad points of
each.  In many ways I'd like to have transaction processing available
but I can live without it.  Probably 99% of DB access will be through
interfaces and I can control DB mods from the app if necessary. 
Performance is an issue.  Stability is an issue.  And replication could
be an issue but again I could handle that at the API level.

Any and all (non religious war) comments or observations would be
appreciated.
