[NTLUG:Discuss] Ximian Update

well, I got it installed, sort of. The install worked, but when I launch
Ximian everything appears to work, then I run mozilla and get errors (bad
permissions, but it doesn't say what directory specifically, just to check
read/write permissions and wether or not the HD is full), I try to run
Evolution and it segfaults (no real info). This was on a RedHat7.1 base
install, nothing special.

The control panel comes up with several *MISSINGNAME* sections, which leads
me to believe the install was not successful as it reported.

Running Red Carpet to see if I can reinstall anything and it won't connect
to anything.
It does tell me it needs to un-install a package it just installed
(mozilla) and that I need to upgrade to a newer version of XFree86.

Wow, this seems painful.

The install put a .mozilla directory in my home directory and chowned it to
root. This was an issue with the fact that I did the install via sudo,
instead of suing to root first. See sudo, is a great security tool, but it
leaves your HOME env variable set to the default while it sets your
effective UID to 0 (root) and the install script used $HOME to figure out
where it needed to install the cache directories and other conf
files. This was probably my issue on Netscape as well. My paranoia is
hurting my productivity :) Fixing these did not fix the evolution problem.

Still playing with it. It is sad the main reason I want to try this
(Evolution) is the one last part I am not able to get working. I did get
RedCarpet working finally, but I am not sure what I did to make it
work. Trying an update now (openssh).
