Howdy,
The ONLY time windoze intentionally overwrites the MBR is during an
install/reinstall.
The only other times I have seen the MBR blown away was after a nasty
MBR virus infection and immediately after a windows crash/reboot.
You are probably thinking of the msdos.sys file, which is not in the
MBR.
