  Believe it or not, Windows 2000 has handled this properly for me.  That
was one of the earlier releases.

  If you have windows NT, there is a trick out there to have the windows
NT loader boot linux from a file copy of the mbr.

 Also, if you create a linux boot floppy BEFORE installing windows, you
can then use the boot floppy to boot, and then run 

lilo

  and get the linux lilo boot record back.
