If it's a small monitor, even this can be a problem. Opening a computer monitor can be
a life threatening hazard if you don't know what you're doing. The capacitors in the
thing can store thousands to millions of volts (depending on the design), and if you
discharge them accidentally (which can be pretty easy), you can kill yourself.
A grounding strap is most certainly NOT recommended (because it makes YOU the shortest
path to ground).
In short: Don't open a computer monitor unless you're absolutely certain of what you're
doing. A misplaced screwdriver can kill you.
