I would suggest a trip to the IBM website.  At one point, the RS/6000 had its
own CPU, although I have heard that recently they are using PowerPC CPU's
in some lines.

With all of the effort they are putting into Linux lately, I suspect that
there would be some documentation on how to install it.  IBM is usually
pretty good about that kind of stuff.
BTW, they are recommending SuSe 7.1.
