[NTLUG:Discuss] recommendations?

IMAP is the way to go if you want your mail to stay on the server.
POP does have a 'stay on server' option, but it doesn't always
work. It's possible to re-download old messages.

IMAP uses more disk space on the server ( that's where the mail
is stored ) and your users have to be 'connected' to process their
mail ( since it's stored on the server ).

But... this allows you to have mail on a central server and you can
access it from work, home, or on the road and always see the SAME
mail. i.e.... your at an airport kiosk and you need to see a copy of a
message that you sent from your house the night before. Log on via
the web ( IMP ) and look at your sent-items folder and see the
message you sent the night before from yor laptop at home.

Also... you can have folders as part of your email address so that things
are automatically copied to a folder that you can then access from anywhere.
i.e. idiotboy+ntlug goes to my idiotboy mailbox and places the message in
my ntlug folder. I can have mail for 'root' sent to idiotboy+root and have
it
go to my idiotboy mailbox and placed in my 'root' folder.

Anyway... I like IMAP. Then again... I have a DSL/Cable, operate from
multiple locations and have 100 meg of mail messages that I need to access.
If I was a little old, 56K dial up user with 3 messages a month, I might not
care as much.

I need to re-install the latest copy of IMP on my test box. I'll try and get
that
done today and send you an login that you can use for testing.
