[NTLUG:Discuss] hdax assignments with logical drives

Hello all,
Does anyone have a good explination why my first logical drive (created in 
MsDos fdisk) is assigned hda5, not hda2?  I would understand hda3, where 
hda2 was the extended partition, but not skipping 3 hda numbers.  If not, no 
worries, because I figured it out anyway.
ps, whats a good site for newbies trying to learn linux theory?
