Here's my guess.

Fact: you can have up to four primary partitions or say 3 primary + 1
extended.

Say i have one large non-extended partion and i want to erase it and make
two smaller non-extended partions (say one for dos 6.2 and the other for
windows 98 (nevermind how they get into the partitions :-) by having the
logical-partions start at hda5, the logical partitions would not have to
be renumbered.

btw, i dont recommend using a website to learn linux theory unless you
have two computers.  (I only had one most of the time and I just used a
few books).  besides you could probably get some not-too-bad books for
cheap.
