Your Windows user should connect to the server with a username that does not exist on the server in order to get read-only access.

Thanks for the links (very helpful).
I have changed the guest user to ftp per the O'reilly book and added:
map to guest = Bad User
to the public share. I tried to have a user connect to the share as ftp.
They get a password prompt. I need this to be a brain dead connect for
the sales force.
