FWIW, there's been a few comments on the OpenNIC mailing list
(www.opennic.unrated.net) about the reliability (or lack thereof) of granitecanyon.
Most likely you're just experiencing some of that unreliability.

For those who are wondering what OpenNIC is, it's a democratic open-source
alternative to the ICANN monopoly. Check it out...I host one of the nameservers
here in Dallas, and we resolve both ICANN and non-ICANN domains.  Feel free to
point your resolv.conf to 144.162.120.230...
