  dmesg should provide some clues.

  also, look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and see if an ifcfg-eth1
script exists (and an ifcfg-eth0).  If they don't somehting failed during
the network configuration, and you either need to redo it by hand or try
something like webmin.
