I highly recommend Ximian if you want a good idea of where Gnome is now
(not what is included with RedHat).  I hate the Gnome with RedHat, but
Ximian is very clean and has some nice features.  I use KDE and some
Ximian apps now...  neither are perfect, but you can mix and match to
taste.

I like how Red-Carpet is done and have been using Evolution for my mail
and have had very few problems and like the feature set.
