i am using a GREAT smtp/pop/webmail package from a company in new
zealand called dmail. it also comes with a tool to allow defined
administrative users to add/delete/modify user definitions.

now here's the heresy - IT COSTS MONEY, but guess what.....

you can understand the conf file
you don't need m4
you don't need a 15 pound book within which you can never find anything
they actually provide support and answer questions

if you're looking to provide this service commercially (as i do), it's
well worth the money.
