did you compile the latest ( 2.4.17 I think ) kernel? You may need to
compile
running with one CPU and then try to boot with dual cpus.

I saw something about having to pass an option ( NOAPIC )  and it would
fix a hang up problem... don't think it was a 'boot' problem.

Works fine with a Single processor kernel, but run an SMP kernel against it
and it stops shortly into the boot.
