Douglas,

I'd highly recommend external modems as most are 100% Linux compatible
out of the box.  If your doing 2 then your box should have 2 serial
ports already available.  For more than 2 you can add serial cards or
possibly a Digi board.  Externals are a little more $$$ than internals
but there are many reasons not to do internal modems.  I'd put serge
issues on top of that list.

If your interested I have a 56K Hayes External Fax/Modem that I don't
need and I'd part with for $50.  It was $100+ retail.  I was setting it
up to get the Fax feature but I ended up getting a stand alone
Fax/Copier instead.  When I set it up originally it took about 10
minutes after I was done reading the paperwork to get a test dial out
made.
