[NTLUG:Discuss] qmail, closing an open relay, and startup issues.

Greetings once again all.

I've been amiss in my duties of closing an open qmail relay.  I have finally
gone through the steps and have it closed down.  The unfortunate thing is
that  I can't get the SMTP server up and running automatically.   I must
always login to the server and execute the tcpserver command manually.

I disabled the smtp service from the /etc/inetd.conf file
#smtp stream tcp nowait qmaild /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env tcp-env
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd

and added the line

tcpserver -x/etc/mail/tcp.smtp.cdb -u1002 -g102 0 smtp
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd &

in my /etc/rc.d/rc.M script.  Well, the SMTP server doesn't want to start
from there and when started manually the service has just stopped or shut
down a few times.  There is mention of downloading another djb tool to use
for starting up services, but quite frankly I'd rather not use that.  I'd
rather just use good ol fashion inetd to do my dirty work.  (At least I
THINK that's what I want..)

So...Can someone point me in the right direction on getting the smtp
service? (or convert me to the use of yet another {seemingly} stinkin djb
tool.  @^@@#$ @^&&#$ **!* crackers!  none of this would be so necessary if
not for them!  UG!
