[NTLUG:Discuss] ximian upgrades?

I just upgraded my gnome installation from ximian's red-carpet util.
Has anyone else tried this?
I took a while, 135 Mb and didn't seem to do anything except screw things up.
It left a library out and told me to mark it for download but it wasn't on the list.  When I found the file (mozilla-nprs) I downloaded it and tried to install but left me a message that if I installed, it would conflict with another lib file.
Is this going to be the norm in Linux.  If so, I am going to need more help than I can find now.
