[NTLUG:Discuss] RE: ximian upgrades?

I have had similar problems with ximian. Thier redcarpet service is decent
because it helps keep track of updates that are available, but I rarely use
its auto update feature.
Here's a stragtegy I have found works well (at least with redhat 7.2)
Install Os without X support.
Downlod latest X from xfree86.org (really easy install)
run go-gnome to get initial gnome install.
install all other apps from web rpms or by building source.
Of course, I have only been running Linux as a desktop for a month or so now
(used it as a server for many years), but I have discovered that I have a
really great game / multimedia workstation.
