Apache 2.0.35 seemed to install well on a slack 8 box running a 2.4.18
kernel with the GRSecurity patch (www.grsecurity.net). Not all of the
GRSecurity options were turned on due to some known issues with Apache. I
went ahead and modified the Apache install location to suit my needs and so
far everything has been running fine. Next week will bring virtual domains
and a heavier load.
Just when I got comfortable installing QMAIL into my init scripts and
inetd.conf, along comes tcpserver and daemontools. Will someone please
point me to a FAQ somewhere that explains just exactly what to install into
/service and how? Maybe some example setups? I keep getting 'readproctitle
service errors: ...not exist?supervise: fatal: unable to start...' and
'[supervise <defunct>]' when I do a 'ps -auxw'.
I made a symbolic link in /service to point to my /var/qmail/rc but that
didn't work.. I tried to make a /service/qmail directory and put the symlink
in there, but to no avail. I also made an 'rc.smtp' script that contained
my tcpserver command (complete with a tcp.smtp.cdb file) but that also
failed to start even when I created a /service/smtp directory and made a
symlink to the 'rc.smtp script'
It seems like the tools at http://cr.yp.to are quality tools with simple
controls, but I just don't have a handle on them yet. Must be a mental
block.
On a successful note, I was able to get two *NIX-only based T-1 router cards
(wanADAPT-1T1E1) from SBE (http://www.sbei.com) connected together in a
frame cloud. (Of course it helped when Verizon actually finished
configuring the circuit in one of their switches.) I even participated to
help SBE tech support identify a problem in one of the programs that kept
causing seg faults. (Not that I *did* anything of course.) I wrote my first
bash script to help with the configuration of the WAN card. I'll post it
later so that you guys can take a look and give me words of wisdom.
