I just wanted to let the people who subscribe to this list know that
there *might* be a "bug" in the current DSL modem that SWBell is selling
with their DSL service. We have recently had them install DSL at
my office (5 static IP addresses; capped at 1.5MBPS down stream) and
once
we replaced the Windows PC (required for installation) with a linux box,
we started seeing framing errors coming from the DSL modem. Knowing
full
well that reporting problems to SWBell from a linux box would do no
good,
we hooked up the modem directly to a Compaq router. The router also
showed misaligned frames coming from the modem. So we got them to come
out
with a new modem. It was the same type as the original (and it was also
new out of the box), and it too showed misaligned frames. I forgot to
mention that both modems were Speedstream 5360's. In any event, the
SWBell
tech said that this was the only modem that they sell anymore, but he
did
mention that he had a Westel Wirespeed modem on his truck that a
customer
had returned because they didn't like the color. We tried that modem,
and
everything works great now.
