I think I was one who at least got the ac97 module to work. :-)

I'm not at work just now so I can't check, but I'd swear my Compaq Deskpro has 
a builtin sound card (don't remember what chipset) and I got it to work pretty 
easily (wav, midi, mp3, and CDs).  I can verify that is so and tell you what 
chipset it has and what my setting are if you need that info.

I put Linux on my wife's box a few months ago for a test.  It had a SB 16 PCI 
card and it worked just fine too.  In fact the driver for it is more advanced 
than the driver for my SBLive!. :-(
