Some of my favorite RPM commands:
rpm -Ivh <package_file_name.rpm> to Install, verbose with hash mark 
progress meter
rpm -Uvv <package_file_name.rpm> to Upgrade OR Install with LOTS of 
verbose output
rpm -qip <packagename> to verify its installed
rpm -qa | grep <some keyword> to find packages
