Following the leader is fine as long as it's not done blindly.  RH is infamous for
the lack of security in their releases (which has only recently been addressed in
the most recent versions).  And sendmail has a long history of vulnerabilities and
security holes (check http://online.securityfocus.com/cgi-bin/sfonline/vulns.pl for
the latest on sendmail as recently as 5/24).  

You may also be interested in learning why the author of qmail believes qmail is a
much more secure solution to handling mail than sendmail
(http://cr.yp.to/qmail/guarantee.html).
