[NTLUG:Discuss] installing issues with lrp on Compaqs

Hi all,
I didn't mean to cause such a ruckus. My comments
were due to frustration with my Compaq and nothing
else. It took me two days to setup my Compaq and find
information (which Compaq makes damned difficult to
find. I thought the knowledge base from Microsucks
was awful). It took me less than an hour to research
and install the lrp which is *supposed* to be more
difficult. Anyway, I finally figured out the last
problem and it turns out it was user error. On my
etc/modules file, I negelected to read the lines that
said:
#For cards below pci-scan is needed
#pci-scan
#PCI cards
tulip
. . .
Hopefully I can hide behind the excuse that I'm new on
that one because
1) I didn't know pci-scan was a module.
2) I needed it for pci cards not onboard.
3) At 2 am, it's easy to miss the details.
4) It's my first day.
Es mi dia primera.
Quack quack quack.

Steve,
I tried a Farrallon 10mbs card, it didn't work so
that's why I thought it was a Compaq issue.
I've had a previous problems with Linksys cards, but I
used it because of the recommendations of other linux
users. I was running Redhat 7.0 with Linksys LNE100TX
Ver 4.0. Being new, I kept thinking it was me because
others got their cards to work without a hitch. After
much research, it turns out that THAT version of
Redhat was exactly incompatible with THAT version of
the card. If I had used another version of Redhat or
another version of the card, it would have worked.
Now I have Redhat 7.2 and everything is hunky dory.
Thanks all,
Minh

Hi Minh.
My only suggestion is to try another species of
Network card. I have
never been able to get a Linksys card to work,
although I am aware that
others have. There may be a problem with the network
card
in question, however.
