'hostid' is implemented in RedHat 7.1 as well - never thought to look at 
my earlier versions, so I cannot tell about that.  I have seen something 
similar on SGI (sysinfo).

My mind too, jump straight to 'hostname', and 'ifconfig' - stuff like that.
