I'm a devout LILO and Ranish user.  If you can't boot to any OS for any
reason, LILO should be able to handle the job.  There is no longer a
1024 cylinder limitation to placing the kernel on the drive.

The Ranish Partition Manager is the simplest and smallest
bootloader/boot manager there is.  It lives entirely in the boot sector
or MBR and requires almost no configuration.  I swear by it.
