OK...I'm setting up a RAID-1 array by way of copying files from one disk to
the /dev/mdX devices.

I mounted /dev/md0 under /mnt/boot and did a 'cp -a /boot /mnt'

Everything APPEARED to copy over correctly but I seem to have lost the files
in my /boot directory.

hang on.

Never mind. I unmounted /dev/md0 and they showed up in /boot. UG! Well
that's a life saver.

So then my questions become..

1) How WOULD one get the files back if need be.

2) any clues as to why that happend for just the /boot partition? (I
know...probably not enough info)

{sigh}
