Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] booting a large PXES generated image/initrd

hey folks,

I've created a 4317283 byte boot image/initrd using PXES.
I also have an old Dell P90c that can't boot from CD or a network device.
The image/initrd boots a very slim 2.4 kernel and connects to an MS win2K
terminal server using rdp here in the lab thus turning this old P90 into a
spiffy thinclient ....If
I can get it to boot the 4.3 MB image/initrd that is.

The P90 has a fresh install of RH7.1 on it's 400 MB harddrive. The PXES
image/initrd has been copied to /boot from my PXES generation machine.

Lilo doesn't want to use the image because it's too big. So, I made a boot
disk and started experimenting with syslinux.cfg on the floppy. Well, I
don't know how to get the syslinux.cfg on the floppy to point to the
image/initrd on the /dev/hda5 in /boot. Actually,
I'm not sure if that's possible.

I would prefer not to use the floppy to boot this machine. Instead, I prefer
to use the old 400 MB HDD to boot the image if that's possible.

Anyone know what course of action I might take to boot this P90 using this
4.3MB image using the HDD?
