I think the amount is definitely a rumor...

Hex Net became part of HyperUsa, aka, Hypernet Communications=>

HyperUSA is an Internet division of Hypernet Communications, Inc.
Established in early 1996, Hypernet Communications has built a reliable
network for Internet access throughout North-Central Texas. Hypernet
Communications now provides customers with dial-up access locations in
35 states. Additional services include DSL access to the Internet,
collocation, web hosting, 24-hour technical support, and domain
registration. For more information about Hypernet Communications,
please feel free to Contact Us.

Until last year, the colocation provider for our server (ntlug.org) was
HyperUSA at their server farm in Cleburne. We have since moved to a
facility at InfoMart (ThePlanet.com). Our shelf space and bandwidth at
that site is being graciously donated by Bynari, Inc.
