As long as the new product (which you are going to install) is happy with
its dependencies there should be no problems.
But if the dependencies problems pop up then you will need to upgrade the
dependacy softwares and then install the relevant software.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] upgrade and install advise needed
Scenario:
- Dell Latitude C850 laptop
- Red Hat Linux 7.2
7.2 doesn't seem to support monitor on this device, though it was
supported on 7.1, so I loaded 7.1, and then upgraded to 7.2 and that worked.
Now here is my question:
Can I so an install from the 7.2 CD's, to add stuff? I mean, like
select only "games", or "development", or something like that - will
that work?
Thanks in advance for insight you may offer.
