OK, I just got home and hooked up my laptop - same trick, can't do 
nothing on the network.
dhcpcd -k eth0 killed all the DHCP information but didn't restart (get a 
new IP)
dhcpcd -n -H eth0 completed the task, and I am up and running.

I guess next time I could look at another suggestion I received from 
this list (from Jose, actually):

/sbin/dhcpcd -Bdkn ethx
