I had another thought too.  Make certain that you also have the 
following lines in your /etc/modules.conf for your sblive.  I don't 
remember if RH's sndconfig program actually puts these lines in for you:

alias sound-slot-0 emu10k1
alias sound-slot-1 emu10k1
alias sound-service1-0 emu10k1
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L 
 >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S 
 >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
