I've done that exact thing many times in the past and it's worked OK.

The only (minor) difference is that I habitually type:

     setenv DISPLAY A:0.0
                       ^^

I don't think the '.0' is needed in this case though - but on multi-pipe
SGI hardware, there can be multiple screens so the extra '.0' is needed.

I don't think that's your problem.

Can you post the *exact* text of the error message you get?
