If that is all you want to do, then you don't need anymore.  I would
recommend doing 15b color, instead of 256 colors and 800x600 if
possible.  It is a good compromise and uses less memory that 16b, but
still has a decent look.  I used this for ages until I upgraded my
company to one that is willing to pay for good equipment.

I think your best bet is to know use gnome, kde or a desktop, but a
simple and small window manager.  See other email.
